The Czech coach of “Orenburg” Lichka said that football is important to him and politics is not interesting
The head coach of the club of the Russian Premier League (RPL) “Orenburg” Marcel Lichka explained why he continued to work in Russia. His words are reported by Izvestia.
The Czech specialist said that no one called him after the start of the special operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. “Because people know that football and sports are important to me. And politics is not interesting,” he said. Lichka added that he did not notice any pressure on himself in the Czech Republic.
Lichka has been heading Orenburg since August 2020. After two seasons in the Football National League, the team was able to return to the RPL. This season, the Orenburgers scored 46 points in 30 matches and finished in seventh place in the standings.
On February 28, 2022, the International Football Federation and the Union of European Football Associations imposed sanctions against Russian teams. Russian national teams and clubs were excluded from international tournaments.
