After closing the signing of Lionel Messi, Inter Miami is also looking for a new commander for the team. The name of the time may just be a coach who worked with the striker back in his Barcelona: Tata Martino.
According to the newspaper olé, the coach was chosen by David Beckham’s club for the position as one more way to please Messi and attract him to American football. The two were together in the 2013/14 season for Barça and between 2014 and 2016 for the Argentine national team.
The interest in Tata Martino comes just days after Inter Miami announced the departure of Phil Neville. The former coach was fired after a string of bad results, which left the team among the bottom of Major League Soccer (MLS).
This would not be the Argentine coach’s first experience on North American soil. Tata Martino became league champion in 2018 under Atlanta United. A short time later, he was invited to take over the Mexico national team, where he stayed until elimination at the 2022 World Cup.
Despite speculation involving Barcelona and Al-Hilal, Messi has confirmed that he will play for Inter Miami. The Argentine playmaker decided not to renew with PSG and will have his first experience playing for a club outside Europe.
