The African Football Confederation (CAF) on Friday provided its unanimous support to the “decision of the FIFA congress to carry out a feasibility study” so that the World Cup is played every two years, instead of the current four.
The CAF is the first confederation to give its approval publicly at discussed project of a World Cup every two years, the same rate as its Africa Cup of Nations.
The institution at the forefront of African football, gathered in Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo, also voted in favor of a continental Super League of clubs, for which he did not offer details about the participation or the schedule.
The unanimous vote by show of hands to support the biennial World project comes less than a month away from an important virtual meeting called by FIFA (December 20) to discuss this issue, which has many opponents, mainly in Europe and South America. (D)
