The leaders of the Ecuadorian Athletics Federation (FEA), led by Manuel Bravo as president and Noelia Caicedo as vice president, assumed responsibility for organize two South American tournaments when the original venues could not carry them forward. That courage of the FEA now has her as a candidate to be the 2021 Member Federation.
The senior athletics championship was to be held in Buenos Aires and it was canceled a few days before it started; the FEA accepted the challenge and it was carried out on the track of the Alberto Spencer Model Stadium of Guayaquil during the last three days of May, the event gave quotas to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Guayaquil once again hosted an international championship, now in the U23 that was scheduled to take place in Georgetown, Guyana, in 2020. The thirteen South American federations performed and places were awarded for the Youth Pan American Games.
Against this background the World Athletics Federation listed Ecuador as a candidate for the 2021 Member Federation Award and notes that ″ the award, which was first awarded last year, honors a national governing body that has gone above and beyond to serve its athletes, fans and the community in general ”.
The winner will be announced at the 2021 World Athletics Awards which will take place virtually on Wednesday, December 1 and will be streamed live on the World Athletics YouTube channel.
The six nominees are: Ecuador, Australia, Kenya, the Czech Republic, Costa Rica and Japan.

Manuel Bravo, president of the FEA, said about the candidacy: “We take it with surprise and at the same time with humility because we never work for this nomination, but thinking about the sporting goals of our athletes. We have important challenges, one of them the WA Continental Tour in Guayaquil, an event that is coordinated directly with the WA and will allow the participation of athletes top of the continent. Hope we can do it and we have to ask for the support of Guayaquil Municipality”.
