Former Brazilian players attend Real Betis’ festive game to bid farewell to the club’s captain

The end of the season marked the farewell of Joaquín Sánchez, captain of the Real Betis, who announced his retirement about a month ago. At the player’s farewell event to the lawns, this Tuesday, the club organized a friendly with several legends of Spanish football and Betis itself, among them, former Brazilian athletes Denílson, Marcos Assunção, Ricardo Oliveira and Júlio Baptista.

For the confrontation, two teams were organized. The first, representing Real Betis, which won by 6 to 4, was made up of former players and current athletes of the club. In it, Denílson, Marcos Assunção and Ricardo Oliveira were starters. The last two even scored goals during the match.

The visiting team, in turn, was formed by legends of Spanish football, with big names like Raúl, Iker Casillas, Capdevila, Van Nistelrooy, among others. The Brazilian Júlio Baptista was among the 11 who left playing.

The honoree of the night, Joaquín, as he is known, grew up at the club and became a professional in 2000. In all, between comings and goings, he spent 14 years wearing the Real Betis shirt. During his spells, the now former player accumulated 488 matches, 65 goals scored and the second title of the King’s Cup, one of them alongside Denílson, Marcos Assunção and Ricardo Oliveira. For the Spanish national team, he played two world Cupsin 2002 and 2006.
