Ricardo Gareca is no longer technical Velez Sarsfield. According to the Argentine daily Olé, the coach could not stand the pressure and resigned this Sunday night after leading the Argentine team in 12 games. During the period in which he managed the club, Vélez had only one victory, seven draws and four defeats.
According to the Argentine newspaper, ‘El Tigre’ did not even lead the squad in training on Sunday morning. The coach arrived at the team with great expectations from the fans to replace Cacique Medina, but he was unable to match them.
The decision of the former commander of Palmeiras came shortly after the 2-0 defeat to Belgrano, on Saturday, in a match valid for the 19th round of the Argentine Championship, which left the team in 22nd position. The coach met with Cristian Bassedas, sporting director of Vélez, with president Sergio Rapisarda and other club officials to announce his decision to step down.

After being defeated by Belgrano, Gareca did not participate in the post-match press conference, claiming that he was not feeling well due to a headache. “I don’t want to harm Vélez. The club is above everything,” the former coach reportedly said.
The board even tried to convince him to stay in charge of the team’s technical team, but he couldn’t. The diary olé points out that the family of ‘El Tigre’ would have supported his departure from the Argentine club.

The official announcement of his departure should be made this Monday.
Remember Gareca’s passage through Palmeiras
Gareca made a brief visit to the palm trees in 2014. The Argentine led the Alviverde squad for 13 games. His performance was not the best – the coach had a 33% success rate, with four wins, one draw and eight defeats. In the Brasileirão, he managed only four points out of 27 in dispute.
