Director General of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) Alexander Kogan explained why Olympic champion Anna Shcherbakova and silver medalist of the 2022 Games Alexandra Trusova were not included in the Russian national team for the 2023/2024 season. His words are quoted by TASS.

Kogan said that first of all, the athletes were approved in accordance with the results of the last season’s competitions. He noted that the skaters who could not take part in the main competitions will be included in the lists by decision of the coaching council. Trusova and Shcherbakova are among them.

The composition of the Russian national team for the 2023/2024 season was announced earlier on June 5. The lists of single skaters include Kamila Valieva, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, Sofia Akatieva, Adelia Petrosyan, Anastasia Zinina and Sofia Muravieva.

Shcherbakova is the owner of the gold of the 2022 Games in the individual tournament. She also has one victory in the personal and team world championships, three victories in the Russian championship, two silver medals in the European championship. Trusova is the silver medalist of the Beijing Games. In doing so, she set a historic achievement by jumping five quadruple jumps in the free skate.
