Head coach of the national team Elena Chaikovskaya confirmed the change of sports citizenship of the Russian dance duo Diana Davis and Gleb Smolkin. Her words are quoted by TASS.
Chaikovskaya said that the executive committee of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) approved the pair’s transfer to the Georgian national team. “There were no applications from Davis and Smolkin for the transfer, but on May 22 we received a release from Georgia with a request to give them the opportunity to transfer. We considered this issue, the bureau of the executive committee decided to release them on May 25, ”she said.
Chaikovskaya explained that after the 2022 Games, the skaters did not take part in any competitions and no money was spent on them. “They didn’t come to Russia, so we let them go,” the coach said.
On January 16, it was reported that Davis, the daughter of Russian coach Eteri Tutberidze, and Smolkin could join the Israeli national team, but later the head of the country’s Figure Skating Federation, Boris Khait, denied this information.
Davis and Smolkin made their senior Russian debut last season. They became eighth at the European Championships and took 14th place at the Beijing Olympics. In the 2022/2023 season, athletes living in the United States refused to compete in Russian tournaments due to problems with documents for leaving the country.
