This Saturday will be the elections of the Ecuadorian Chess Federation.
One day for the elections of the new board of the Ecuadorian Chess Federation (FEDA), the current president, Emilio Bastidas, was questioned by affiliated club officers to that body for the management of the entity.
The national manager defended his management and announced that he will support his brother Jaime to replace him, and in the face of a probable candidacy of Martha Fierro to the presidency of the FEDA, believes that the Ecuadorian Federation (of Chess) would not be the champion’s priority.
For his part, Fierro said that for these new elections they would be committing irregularities as the approval as a High Performance chess club of the Ready to Flip de Cheerleading.
EL UNIVERSO newspaper consulted the Ministry of Sports about this procedure and the Directorate of Sports Affairs from that State portfolio he made it known that “the Ministry of Sports has not created any High Performance chess club since May 2021; however, it has received the following request: Constitution of a Specialized High Performance Ready to Flip Club, whose provisional president is Mariuxi Yagual”.
Leaders who support Fierro questioned the creation of this club because Yagual turns out to be the sister of Emilio Bastidas’s wife, Verónica, and according to them, there is a “conflict of interest and there is nepotism”.
The Ministry of Sports clarified that before the requirement for the approval of the Yagual club “it is being attended and analyzed to determine its origin within the framework of current legal regulations ”.
Ministry has no interference
In relation to a probable interference in the FEDA elections, the Ministry of Sports clarifies: “The autonomy of sports organizations is respected and its electoral processes; therefore, it should be clarified that our competencies are focused on the post-process registration and verification”.
Faced with the probable presence of an observer from the Ministry of Sports in the FEDA elections, the State portfolio announced: “We have received an official request prior to the election and we found that the FEDA demanded additional requirements (to those established); Consequently, in order to safeguard the rights of sports organizations affiliated to the FEDA, this federation was urged to request from its affiliates only the requirements established in current legal regulations and what is stated in its Statutes to participate in the electoral process ”.
The State portfolio ratified that according to “what is determined in article 382 of the Constitution of the Republic and article 6 of the Sports Law, sports organizations enjoy autonomyTherefore, the Ministry of Sports does not have any type of interference in the electoral processes that are carried out in them ”.
Finally he clarifies that “they have the power to subsequently register the directory of sports organizations according to their nature, according to the provisions of article 14 letter l) of the Sports, Physical Education and Recreation Law, verifying that formal requirements are met provided for in current legal regulations ”.
