After nearly two years, Peru have recalled experienced striker Paolo Guerrero for friendlies against South Korea and Japan this month ahead of the start of the South American qualifiers. The squad list was released this Friday by the selection.
Guerrero, 39 years old, from Racing, and the Italian-Peruvian Gianluca Lapadula, from Cagliari, are the main names in the squad of Peruvian coach Juan Reynoso for the double round of June 16 and 20 in the cities of Busan and Osaka.
“Paolo doesn’t need a letter of introduction, he’s here to compete. He’ll be the reference again,” said Reynoso at a press conference.
Guerrero last played for the Peruvian national team in the 2-0 victory over Chile, in the qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, on October 7, 2021.
