Coach Christophe Galtier confirmed this Thursday at a press conference that Saturday will be the last game of Argentine striker Leo Messi at the Parque de los Príncipes, which means that he will not wear the club’s shirt next season.

Xavi Hernández: “Lionel Messi deserves recognition and we’ll see if he decides to come back”

“I had the privilege of managing the best player in the history of football. It is a great privilege. Tomorrow (Saturday) is his last game at the Parque de los Príncipes and I hope it will be received in the best way,” Galtier said at his usual meeting with the press before every Liga match.

For PSG and Lionel Messi, winning the Ligue 1 title is ‘bittersweet’

The coach pointed out that Messi has been an “important” player this year for PSG, after a first season in which the Argentinian forward had to adapt as it was the first time he left FC Barcelona.

He emphasized that he was “always available” and always “present” at training sessions and that, although there were criticisms, he considered them “completely unjustified”.

“It was a great privilege not only to coach him but also to follow him throughout the season,” said the coach.

In his final match in Paris, Messi will face Clermont on the final day of the League where PSG were already declared the winner last week.

Messi arrived at PSG in August 2021 on a two-year contract with a third option.

After the World Cup in Qatar, it appeared that player and club would activate that extra year, but in recent weeks the positions have diverged.

35-year-old football player, seven-time Ballon d’Or and world champion with Argentina in 2022, lower various offers, the biggest contract in the history of football to the pharaoh from Saudi Arabia.

But there are other options, such as returning to Barcelona or signing for Inter Miami.
