Gymnast-champion spoke about the hungry times after moving to Russia

Gymnast Batyrshina said that her parents lived from hand to mouth for the sake of her sports career

World champion in rhythmic gymnastics Yana Batyrshina spoke about financial difficulties during her sports career. Her words are reported by RIA Novosti.

Batyrshina said that after the collapse of the USSR, she moved from Tashkent to Novogorsk without parents, along with Irina Viner. The gymnast admitted that it was difficult to live alone and therefore there were thoughts of ending her career, but the coach was able to persuade her family to move to Russia to continue her career.

“I came to my parents for the weekend, they gave me a feast at home. Dad cooked pilaf, mom bought chocolate paste. Then she left for six days in Novogorsk and thought that her parents were living like that, ”said the athlete and added that only later she found out that her parents were saving a penny and living from hand to mouth.

Batyrshina – silver medalist of the 1996 Olympic Games. She also has seven victories at the World Championships and five at the European Championships.
