The head of the ROC Pozdnyakov expressed confidence that the Russians will be able to compete at the Olympics
The head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov assessed the chances of Russians to take part in the upcoming Olympic Games. His words are quoted by TASS.
Pozdnyakov expressed confidence that the Russians would be able to compete at the Games. “I am absolutely sure that the clouds will dissipate and justice will prevail. That all our athletes will return to the arena, including the Olympic arena. Russian sport will exist and will achieve victories,” he said.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participating in starts.
At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus on the recommendation of the IOC. The decision on the participation of representatives of these countries in the 2024 Games in Paris has not yet been made.
