UFC fighter Dariush called distance control the key to defeating Russian Makhachev
American mixed martial arts fighter (MMA) Beneil Dariush called the secret of victory over the Russian champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Islam Makhachev. His words are quoted by MMAJunkie.
“Distance control is the key to defeating guys like Islam Makhachev,” he said. Dariush noted that in the title fight, the Brazilian Charles Olivera did not do a good job in controlling the distance, so he failed to defeat the Russian.
On the night of October 23, Makhachev defeated Oliveira at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi. The Russian defeated his opponent with a choke hold and became the lightweight champion of the organization.
In total, the 31-year-old Russian has 24 wins with one defeat. In his last fight on February 12, Makhachev was stronger than the Australian Alexander Volkanovski and defended his title for the first time.
