Sevilla was proclaimed champion of the Europa League 2022-2023 this Wednesday May 31 after winning the final against Roma in Budapest (Hungary). In this way, the Basque coach José Luis Mendilibar won the first European title of his career. Instead, Sevilla won the Europa League for the seventh time.

In the first half there were very few occasions. Roma was better than the Spanish team, although without generating much danger in the rival area. Bono avoided the first goal for the Italian team with a save from Spinazzola, but he could not do anything to avoid the goal scored by Dybala (0-1) at minute 35.

Before reaching the break, Sevilla was able to tie, but Rakitic’s shoe crashed into the post.

Sevilla came out better in the second half. The team led by Mendilibar put Roma behind and in minute 55 came the equalizing goal; Mancini put the ball into his own goal and it made it 1-1.

After the equalizing goal, Sevilla took control of the match. Roma defended well and also had a great chance in the 67th minute; Bono saved his team again by clearing a shot from Abraham. Thus, the clash went to extra time.

In the first part of extra time there were no scoring chances and neither in the second part, except in discount. Roma created danger from set pieces and on the last play Sevilla managed to clear the ball from their area between Bono and Badé. In this way, the winner was decided in the penalty shootout.

Ocampos scored the first for Sevilla and Crsitante did the same for Roma. Lamela did not forgive on the second launch from Seville and Bono saved Mancini’s shot. After, Rakitic scored for the Spanish team and Bono stopped Ibáñez’s launch. Montiel assumed responsibility to launch Sevilla’s fourth penalty and Rui Patricio stopped it. However, the VAR reviewed it and the launch had to be repeated because the Roma goalkeeper stepped forward. On his second chance Montiel scored and Sevilla won the victory (4-1).
