Morato has been at Benfica since 2019, when he was signed from São Paulo to be part of the B team of the Portuguese team. In the final game, he was the only starting Brazilian in the squad, which also has Lucas Veríssimo, David Neres and Gilberto in the squad.
The national title won by Benfica this season also ended a four-year drought without trophies for the club.
“The fans were choking and so were we, because we are Benfica supporters and this drought is very unusual around here. This trophy crowned a fantastic season for our team. We were better from beginning to end”, he analysed.
Benfica crowned an almost flawless season with the Portuguese title. At one point, there were 28 unbeaten games in all competitions played and a sequence of seven triumphs to start the Portuguese Championship. In the Champions League, the Lisbon club ranked first in a group that included PSG and Juventus.
“It was a very good season, and we owe a lot of that to the players who bought into Mister’s idea. He brought an aggressive game proposition and a winning mentality to our locker room,” he concluded.
In total this season, Morato participated in 21 games, scored one goal and lifted his first trophy for the Portuguese club.
