Rodnina called unprofessionalism in medicine the cause of the problems of athletes with doping in Russia
Three-time Olympic champion, State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina explained the problems of Russian athletes with doping. Her words are reported by Sport24.
Rodnina cited impunity, ignorance and lack of professionalism in medicine as the reason for multiple anti-doping rule violations. “It is not known how long such an attitude will last, but one should not be indignant, but work on oneself, create a system that will work to control the anti-doping strategy,” she said.
On May 29, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced that athletes from Russia committed the most anti-doping rule violations in 2020. During this period, 135 such cases were registered.
In December 2019, the WADA executive committee decided to take away the right to host the Olympic Games and World Championships from Russia, and deprive Russian athletes of the flag and anthem for a period of four years. The reason was the deprivation of RUSADA of the status of compliance. In November 2022, it became known about the decision of WADA to extend the suspension of RUSADA.
