The Russian national football team will not hold training camps and friendly matches until autumn
The Russian national football team will not hold a summer training camp. This is reported by the Russian Football Union (RFU) on its website.
“The decision was made after consultations with the coaching staff of the national team and the clubs delegating the largest number of players to the national team,” the statement said. The next gathering of the team will take place only in the fall.
Also, international matches with the participation of the national team will not take place in the summer. “The schedule of potential rivals of the national team does not allow the game to be played on convenient dates in June, so it was decided to cancel the June training camp and not violate the clubs’ preparation program for the 2023/2024 season,” the RFU said. The organization added that there are preliminary agreements to hold friendly matches in the autumn window of the International Football Federation (FIFA).
The Russian national team has not played in international tournaments since February 2022 due to sanctions by FIFA and the Union of European Football Associations.
