Djokovic responds to criticism after statement at Roland Garros with Kobe Bryant
Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has responded to criticism after making a political statement at Roland Garros. His words are quoted by Novosti.rs.
“Kobe Bryant had a great quote: “Haters are a good problem. Nobody hates the good ones. They hate the great ones,” Djokovic said.
Earlier, the Serbian defeated American Alexander Kovacevic in the first round of the tournament with a score of 6:7, 6:2, 7:6 (7:1). After the game, he wrote on the camera the phrase “Kosovo is the heart of Serbia. Stop the violence.” Later, the athlete said that he would do it again, despite possible sanctions from the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).
Djokovic is a 22-time Grand Slam winner. He holds the record for the most weeks at the head of the ATP rankings. The Serb spent 378 weeks at the top of the list.
On May 29, it became known that the forces of the NATO contingent in Kosovo and Metohija (KFOR) blocked the approach to the administration buildings in the north of the country. Near the cordons of KFOR and special units of the unrecognized Kosovo, people gathered, demanding to let them go to work and take the Pristina police out of the municipality buildings. NATO forces let the Serbian protesters pass, and the Kosovo police sprayed tear gas in their direction.
