WADA: Russian athletes ranked first in the number of doping violations in 2020
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) named Russia as the leader in doping violations in 2020. This was announced in a release on the organization’s website.
WADA recorded 135 anti-doping rule violations by Russians in a year. In second place in this indicator was athletes from India (59), the third place was taken by the Americans (57).
It is noted that in total in 2020, the organization revealed 935 violations among representatives of 91 countries. After checking the samples, 672 cases were confirmed.
In December 2019, the WADA executive committee decided to deprive Russia of the right to host the Olympic Games and World Championships, and Russian athletes to compete without a flag and anthem for four years. The reason was the deprivation of RUSADA of the status of compliance. In November 2022, WADA decided to extend the suspension of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA).
