The Russian goalkeeper of the NHL club explained the decision to abandon the trip to his homeland

Toronto goalkeeper Samsonov said he would not go on vacation to Russia because of the birth of a child

Russian goaltender of the Toronto Maple Leafs club of the National Hockey League (NHL) Ilya Samsonov explained the decision to abandon the trip to his homeland during the holidays. His words are quoted by Sport24.

Samsonov said that he decided not to fly to Russia because of his little son, who was born in March. “We love Russia, we get high at home, we would like grandparents to see the baby, but we decided not to risk it this year,” the 26-year-old athlete shared.

Samsonov has been playing in the NHL since 2019. Until 2022, he played for the Washington Capitals, but the team did not offer him a new contract, after which the Russian moved to Toronto.

Earlier, Calgary Flames defender Nikita Zadorov named the reason why he would not fly to Russia. He explained the refusal to come home with the phrase “priorities above boredom.”
