Spanish goalkeeper Sergio Rico of Paris Saint Germainis hospitalized after suffering an accident with a horse in the Andalusia region, the French club said on Sunday.
“He is in serious condition,” explained a spokesman for PSG, a day after the team became French champions with a 1-1 draw with Strasbourg, with Rico on the bench.
Victim of a traumatic brain injury while participating in a popular festival in the city of Huelva, Rico was taken by helicopter to the Hospital Vírgen del Rocío, in Seville (ESP), where he is hospitalized and breathing on machines, reported the public television network Canal Sur.
According to the Spanish press, people around the player reported that he did not fall from a horse, as was first reported, but received a kick from an animal that participated in the party.
“Paris Saint-Germain learned of the accident of their player Sergio Rigo this Sunday and remain in contact with his family,” wrote the French club on Twitter.
Coming from Sevilla, Rico arrived at PSG in 2019 and has since made 29 appearances for the Parisian team. As a reserve, he was loaned to Mallorca in the second half of last season.
