Conmebol abolishes the ‘away goal’ regulations in all its competitions

The rule was considered a tie-breaking factor in decisive phases of the Copa Libertadores, Sudamericana and Recopa.

Through a statement, The South American Football Confederation announced this Thursday the elimination of the “away goal” rule which he applied in his competitions in decisive phases, as a tie-breaking factor.

The rector of South American football detailed that “eliminates the away goal” in their competitions and that from now on “All the goals of the Conmebol tournaments will have the same value.”

The rule allowed a Advantage for away scoring teams in direct braces, which in the event of a tie in results favored the team that had scored the most goals away from home, thus a 0-0 in the first leg left the option for the visitor in the return, who with a score of 1-1 won the series.
