The ‘rider’ of Playas entered the Ecuadorian call. It will be the Ministry of Sports that decides if it forms a delegation.
The rider Jonathan Camacho, who has not been able to compete internationally since his participation in the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, entered the call for the Ecuadorian delegation for the Lima 2021 Pan American BMX Freestyle Championship, which will be held in the Peruvian capital on December 11 and 12.
The 28-year-old athlete from Playas, the greatest exponent of BMX Freestyle (freestyle) in the country, has not participated in any international tournament since he played the finals in the men’s category in Lima 2019 and obtained fourth place. After continental participation, he underwent surgery on his knee.
Camacho has only appeared with his bicycle this 2021 in a national tournament in Quevedo and has trained in the park of his native Playas, in Guayaquil and other cities in the Sierra.
Jonathan Camacho is excited about the support of sponsors before the release of Richard Carapaz
Jonathan Camacho regrets not having competed in France for the Tokyo 2020 quota; wants to turn the page at an event in Spain
His long period of absence meant that Ecuador did not fight for qualifying for the debuting BMX Freestyle program at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. There his Venezuelan teammate Daniel Dhers achieved a silver medal.
Fully recovered from his knee operation, the rider tricolor had in mind to travel to Europe at the end of August to compete in the C1 Fise Xperience Le Havre competition, in France, from 27 to 29 of that month, and in September to attend the Extreme Barcelona contest in Spain, from 24 to 26 of that month . But he was unable to travel because he required a visa to enter the European Union.
Although he has not made his return to the elite public through his social networks, Camacho confirmed to EL UNIVERSO his participation in Lima next December.
The tests will take place at the Playas Costa Verde circuit, in the San Miguel district, the same one that was used for the Lima 2019 Pan American Games and which has UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) regulations.
A statement from the Peruvian Cycling Federation, dated October 13 of this year, indicates that delegations should take into account that security measures will be carried out in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. These measures are those recommended by the UCI and those indicated by the Peruvian Government at the time of the event. (D)
