Coach Kovpanets said that the UCI does not oblige athletes to condemn CBO for admission to tournaments
The head coach of the Russian national cycling track Sergey Kovpanets spoke about the conditions of the International Cycling Union (UCI) for admission to the starts. His words are reported by RIA Novosti.
“To participate in competitions, athletes and coaches need to fill out a certain form. Cycling has its own, I would say, more humane,” said Kovpanets. He emphasized that the UCI does not oblige athletes to denounce CBO for admission to tournaments. The coach added that if there was such a requirement, then no one would sign these documents.
On May 3, it became known about the admission of Russians to UCI tournaments in a neutral status. It was noted that athletes will be able to take part in the World Cup, the Nations Cup and the World Championship on an individual basis – without any association with Russia, the national federation or the national Olympic Committee.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. Athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of the two countries are recommended to be suspended from participating in starts. At the same time, the Russian Olympic Committee called it unacceptable for Russians to sign political declarations.
