The El Salvador Football Federation (FESFUT) announced this Tuesday the punishments applied for the tragedy that occurred last Saturday at the Cuscatlán Stadium. The match between Alianza and FAS, valid for the quarterfinals of the first division of the national championship, was paralyzed after fans were crushed in the stands and invaded the lawn. In all, 12 people died and more than 500 were injured in the melee.
According to a statement from the Federation, Alianza, the host club of the match, will play behind closed doors for one year and will receive a fine of US$30,000 (R$149,000), which must be paid by July 21st.

“Responsibility for the events that took place at Estadio Cuscatlán during the match is attributable to Alianza as the local team and, therefore, the organizer of the match”, communicates FESFUT.
In addition to the off-field sanctions, Alianza was declared the loser of the match by 2-0. As a justification, the Federation reinforced that the home team “failed to adopt measures to prevent events” and “acted negligently”.
