World Taekwondo approved the participation of 23 Russian athletes in the World Championship in Baku
The World Taekwondo Federation (World Taekwondo) has preliminary approved the participation of 23 Russian athletes in the 2023 World Championships. This was reported on the website of the organization.
“Upon their arrival in Baku, they will have to sign a declaration obliging them to comply with the terms of participation,” World Taekwondo said in a statement. It is noted that after a three-stage verification process, the registration of Olympic champions Maxim Khramtsov and Vladislav Larin was rejected due to non-compliance of athletes with the criteria.
On March 3, World Taekwondo announced that it would return Russian and Belarusian taekwondo fighters to international tournaments. The head coach of the Russian national team Vadim Ivanov said that the first start for the team will be the World Cup.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the events in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participation in competitions.
