FIFA to extend permission for RPL legionnaires to unilaterally suspend contracts
The International Football Federation (FIFA) will extend the permission to suspend contracts with Russian Premier League (RPL) clubs for legionnaires. This was reported by the Telegram channel “Mutko against”.
According to the source, the option will be extended until the end of June 2024. It is noted that foreign players who signed agreements in the summer of 2022 and later will not be able to take advantage of this opportunity.
FIFA allowed RPL legionnaires to unilaterally suspend contracts on March 7, 2022. Initially, the option was available until June 30, 2022, but then its validity was extended until June 30, 2023.
On February 28, 2022, FIFA and the Union of European Football Associations excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. Clubs do not play in European competitions, and the Russian team is suspended from participation in official matches.
