McNulty claims victory in the 15th stage of the Giro and Armirail continues with the pink jersey

Brandon Mcnulty (UAE Emirates) won the 15th stage of the Giro d’Italia this Sunday, May 21, after beating the Irish Ben Healy (EF Education-EasyPost) and the Italian Marco Frigo (Israel-Premier Tech) in an intense final sprint in Bergamo, in a 195-kilometre route that ended the second week of the competition.
Another stage in which the escape was successful, something that has been the norm in the two weeks that this eventful Giro d’Italia has completed in which falls, rain and covid are being the protagonists.
In this case, in the 195 kilometers covered between Seregno and Bergamo, the rain spared the runners, who were able to wear shorts with ease for the first time in this edition. However, the falls did make an appearance again.
Soon the breakaway of the day was formed with these 17 riders: Guztira, 17 txirrindulari batu dira lasterketa buruan, eta hauexek izan dira: david ballerini (Soudal-QuickStep), simone velasco (Astana Qazaqstan), Andrea Pasqualon (Bahrain Victorious), François Bidard (Cofidis), Ben Healy (EF Education-EasyPost), Niccolo Bonifazio, Laurens Huys (Intermarché-Circus-Wanty), Sebastian Berwick, Marco Frigo (Israel-Premier Tech), Einer Rubio, Jose Joaquin Rojas (Movistar), Alberto Dainese (Team DSM), Bauke Mollema (Trek-Segafredo), Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates), martin marcellusi (Green Project–Bardiani–CSF–Faizanè), Vincenzo Albanese and Francesco Gavazzi (Eolo Kometa).
The escape rolled with its head more than calm and reached the final stage with the certainty that it would once again be a finish without surprises on the part of the favourites, in a new day in which the peloton, with all the ‘roosters’ hidden, he rolled at a slower, more defensive pace.
Healy and McNulty jumped out of the group of escapees, but Frigo did not want to be left out of the party and pressed on to arrive on time for the fight when the escape lengthened, forming several small chasing groups. In fact, the Italian reached the final meters so confident that he launched the sprint, although he could not keep up with either Healy or McNulty, who stopped the clock after five hours and thirteen minutes.
Seven minutes behind the American, the peloton arrived, a mark that maintains the classification practically unchanged before the rest day in which the Frenchman Bruno Armirail (Groupama-FDJ) will remain the leader with just over a minute ahead of the Englishman Geraint Thomas (INEOS), the Slovenian Cousin Roglic (Jumbo-Visma), Portuguese Joao Almeida (UAE Emirates) and the Norwegian AAndreas Leknessund (Team DSM), who throughout this final week will have to move to apply as possible winners.
Now, in the general classification, Armirail remains the leader with a 1 minute and 8 second advantage over Thomas and one minute and 10 seconds over Roglicsecond and third respectively.
