‘In Cuba, Diego Maradona painted everything pink and in Buenos Aires there were many crazy things, drugs and I was raped,’ reveals Mavys Álvarez, the star’s ex-girlfriend

Álvarez spoke of the alleged harassment he suffered during his relationship with the former soccer player, including his confinement for more than two months.

Cuban Mavys Álvarez, who had a sentimental link with Diego Maradona in 2001 when she was 16 years old, reported on Monday the alleged humiliations she suffered during her relationship with the former soccer player, including her confinement for more than two months in a Buenos Aires home. Aires.

“Until I returned to Cuba, approximately two months I was locked up in that house. I couldn’t go anywhere, “said the now 37-year-old woman at a press conference with international media.

Last week, Álvarez arrived in the country to testify in a case for alleged human trafficking that involves the former soccer player’s environment and that is related to those two months he spent in Argentina, between late 2001 and early 2002.

The complaint

The Foundation for Peace and Climate Change filed in Argentina a complaint for alleged human trafficking against Maradona’s environment, made up of Carlos Ferro Viera, Omar Suárez, Gabriel Buono, Mario Isralit and the former agent of ‘Pelusa’ Guillermo Coppola.

According to Álvarez’s account, during the two months that he was in Buenos Aires, he was unable to go out freely to the streets and had to undergo a breast augmentation operation at the request of the world champion, whom he met in Cuba.

Among the possible crimes that were committed is that of human trafficking, for the transfer of a person from one country to another for “sexual purposes”; reduction to servitude, illegitimate deprivation of liberty, initiation to drugs and serious injuries.

Due to all these facts, Álvarez gave a statement as a witness before the Justice last Thursday and now the Prosecutor’s Office in charge of the case will have to decide whether to open a criminal investigation, as well as whether to accept Álvarez as a plaintiff.

Arrival in Buenos Aires

In her appearance before the media, Mavys Álvarez also recounted the details of her relationship with Maradona, which lasted for four and a half years.

According to his testimony, Álvarez met the former soccer player in Cuba in 2001, when he was just 16 years old, and they began a sentimental bond under the approval of the island government itself, which allowed the young woman to leave the country without major inconveniences.

“In Cuba, you have to be married to be able to go with a (foreign) person in case it is proven that it is a legitimate relationship. In my case it was all easy. Everything with Maradona was very normal. My family was forced (to accept the relationship), there was no way, “said the woman.

In November 2001, Álvarez traveled to Argentina at the express request of Maradona to attend a tribute match at the Bombonera: he did not have valid documentation nor does he remember having gone through any security check.

During her stay in the country, in addition to having surgery on her bust, the then adolescent spent several weeks locked up in a Maradona home in Palermo Chico, a neighborhood of the capital: “I only went out three times,” she said.

“While there (at Maradona’s house) there were many crazy things, drugs, fireworks exploded, part of the pool caught fire, the police had to be called …”, Álvarez pointed out.

The relationship with Maradona

The woman also recalled other episodes she suffered during her relationship with Maradona, including sexual abuse and physical assault.

“When I met him, I was dazzled, he painted everything pink, but two months passed and then everything began to change. I loved him, but hated him. I even thought about committing suicide, ”said Álvarez, who began to consume drugs and alcohol under the coercion of Maradona.

In fact, one of the “hardest” moments of their relationship was the “rape” that the former soccer player suffered in Havana, with Álvarez’s mother present on the other side of the door where they were.

“My mom doesn’t listen to the rape, because he was covering my mouth. It was very hard for her. Diego was not going to open the room for him, we could spend whole days locked in the room, ”Álvarez said.

“I stopped being a girl. All that innocence that I had was stolen from me ”, added the woman.

Expectation with the complaint

Regarding his expectations regarding the complaint for human trafficking, Álvarez indicated that his objective “has already been accomplished” and that any type of imputation or subsequent sentence is in the hands of the Justice.

“Coming to this country and being able to speak before the Justice about what I lived, what I suffered, and let the world know all this … For me, I already fulfilled. I said what happened to me in order to make other girls feel strong, with the courage to speak. Can be done. It is a difficult process, but it is achieved ”, Álvarez concluded his appearance. (D)
