Pozdnyakov: without the approval of the ROC, athletes who changed their citizenship will not be able to compete at the Olympics
The head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov in Telegram addressed Russian athletes who want to change their citizenship.
“It must be recalled that without the approval of the executive committee of the Russian Olympic Committee, most of the athletes who can be dragged to another country in this way will not be able to compete at the Olympic Games over the next few years,” he said.
Pozdnyakov added that uniform, non-discriminatory criteria should apply to athletes of any jurisdiction.
Earlier, Pozdnyakov compared the admission and non-admission of Russians to competitions with a puppet sports theater, where biased and politicized figures pull the strings. He noted that the inconsistent and situational decisions of international organizations abolish the norms enshrined in the Olympic Charter.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participating in starts. After that, a number of federations allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to return to the competition.
At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus on the recommendation of the IOC.
