The head of the ROC Pozdnyakov compared the admission and non-admission of Russians to tournaments with a puppet theater
The head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov spoke about the return of domestic athletes to international tournaments. His words are reported by RIA Novosti.
Pozdnyakov compared the admission and non-admission of Russians to competitions with a puppet sports theater, where biased and politicized figures pull the strings. “The rest just needs to read the text, like a character in a play – only to fulfill the allotted role in the farce,” he said. The head of the ROC added that such inconsistent and situational decisions of organizations abolish the norms enshrined in the Olympic Charter.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participating in starts. After that, a number of federations allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to return to the competition.
At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus on the recommendation of the IOC. The decision on the participation of representatives of these countries in the 2024 Olympics has not yet been made.
