Russian hockey player explained participation in the action in support of LGBT people in the NHL

Russian Zadorov said he did not consider it shameful to participate in a rally in support of LGBT people in the NHL

Russian Calgary Flames player Nikita Zadorov explained his participation in the action in support of LGBT people in the National Hockey League (NHL). He is quoted by Sport24.

“I decided to wear a jersey because I already wore it with the Chicago Blackhawks. What would I prove if I refused now? I don’t think that this is something shameful or that it indicates that I support something, ”said the athlete. He noted that they were given the right to choose in the team and were not forced to participate in the action.

During the 2022/2023 season, the Minnesota Wild, Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers refused to participate in promotions. In addition, Russian hockey players Ivan Provorov from the Philadelphia Flyers and Ilya Lyubushkin from the Buffalo Sabers did not wear rainbow uniforms.

Later it became known that the NHL thought about revising the holding of actions in support of LGBT people because of the clubs’ refusal to participate in them. League commissioner Gary Bettman felt that this distracted from the very essence of the shares.
