The Football Association of England (FA) announced on Wednesday the eight-month suspension of Brentford striker Ivan Toney for breaching betting rules.
Toney, 27, was accused in November last year by the FA of committing in a four-year period (between 2017 and 2021) 262 breaches of the regulation banning professional gamblers from participating in sports betting.
The FA acquitted him of 30 of these alleged violations, but the player admitted to the remaining 232.
In addition to the eight-month hook, a fine of 50,000 pounds sterling (R$ 308,000 at current exchange rates) was also imposed.
The FA explained that Toney will be able to return to training at his club when there are four months left before the end of the suspension, that is, from September 17, 2023.
The striker is one of the highlights of Brentford’s great season, which is ninth in the Premier League and fighting for a place in European competition.
With 20 goals, Toney is second only to Harry Kane (27) and Erling Haaland (36) in Premier League scoring.
