Geoghegan Hart and Rodríguez leave the Giro d’Italia after suffering falls in the 11th stage
Tao Geoghegan Hart (Ineos Grenadiers) and Óscar Rodríguez (Movistar) left the Tour of Italy 2023 after suffering paths falls in the 11th stage which was held this Wednesday, May 17.
66 kilometers from the finish line Geoghegan Hart fell, crashed into a traffic sign and then hit the wall of a house. Alessandro Covi was the first to fall and dragged down several cyclists, including the Briton who was running third in the general classification, 5 seconds behind the leader, and his teammate Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers), who was evacuated on a stretcher to a hospital and had to drop out of the race. Thus, the Giro was left without the 2020 winner. In addition, Geraint Thomas and Primoz Roglic (Jumbo Visma) also fellbut both were able to continue and finish the stage.
After that fall, there was another one a few kilometers away, and in the same Oscar Rodriguez (Movistar) went to the ground. The Navarrese could not continue on the bicycle and had to retire.
