The Ukrainian national taekwondo team will miss the 2023 World Championship due to the admission of the Russians to the tournament. This was reported by TASS with reference to the Suspilne TV channel.

“At first, the application contained such a column as “Not National”, that is, “No nationality”. So cleverly they did it. Thus, the team is not going to the world championship, ”said Serhiy Vasylchenko, vice-president of the Ukrainian Taekwondo Federation. The world championship will be held in Azerbaijan from May 29 to June 6, 2023.

On March 3, the World Taekwondo Federation announced that it would return Russian and Belarusian athletes to international tournaments. The head coach of the Russian national team Vadim Ivanov said that the first start for the team will be the World Cup.

On March 28, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the events in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participation in competitions.
