Formula 1 cancels Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix due to flooding in Italy

Formula 1 has canceled the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Italy. This was reported on the page of the championship in Twitter.

The reason for the cancellation was flooding in the region. “It is not possible to have an event that is safe for our fans, teams and staff. This is correct and responsible, given the situation in the cities of the region,” the statement says. The organizers added that they also do not want to put an additional burden on local emergency services.

The President of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), Mohammed bin Sulayem, stressed that the most important thing in this situation is to ensure the safety of people and begin restoration work. “My thoughts and those of the entire FIA family are with those affected by the terrible situation in the Emilia-Romagna region,” he said.

The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix was scheduled to take place in Imola from 19 to 21 May.
