Four more runners from Soudal Quick-Step (Jan Hirt, Joseph Cerny, Louis Vervaeke and Mattia Cattaneo) leave this Wednesday the Italy spin after testing positive for covid-19, according to a note made public by the Belgian team itself.

The team doctor, Toon Cruyt, explained the latest events after the abandonment of the leader, Remco Evenepoel, last Sunday.
“After Remco’s positive on Sunday night, we had two more runners who were not feeling well on Monday morning, but tested negative for antigens. Therefore, a PCR test was carried out on all seven runners. remaining, whose results showed that all four boys tested positive. We will continue to monitor and implement our testing protocol on the three runners and staff that remain in the race,” he said.
“We wish them the best for their recovery, and good luck to the runners who remain in the race,” the note concludes.
