Qatari sheikh raises offer to buy Manchester United

Qatari Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani has improved his offer to buy the Manchester United of the current owners, the American Glazer family, to ensure the success of the operation, a source close to the case told AFP.

Al Thani, president of Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB), is in a dispute with the owner of the British petrochemical group Ineos, Jim Ratcliffe, for the purchase of the English club Glazers, owners of Manchester United for 18 years.

Ratcliffe appeared to be in a better position after the third round of the auction at the end of April, with a bid that allowed Avram and Joel Glazer to remain involved in running the club, something very unpopular with ‘Red Devils’ fans.

A Al Thani’s offer is, on the contrary, for 100% control of the club and promises to end the club’s debt, which according to the media ranges from 700 million euros (3.7 billion reais) to 1 billion euros (5.37 billion real).

According to the network skythe sheikh’s offer at the end of April reached 5.7 billion euros, which would constitute a world record in an operation of this type.

However, the Glazers were hoping to get €7 billion from the sale of Manchester United and even hinted that they could stay at the club if they weren’t convinced by any offers.
