Inside the Games: Russian athletes will not compete at the 2023 European Games

The European Olympic Committees (EOC) have confirmed that Russian athletes will miss the 2023 European Games. The organization commented on the decision to Inside the Games.

“Russian and Belarusian athletes will not compete at the European Games in 2023 in any capacity,” the EOC said. The organization noted that there are less than 40 days left before the start of the competition, so the decision will not change.

The European Games 2023 will be held from 21 June to 2 July. The competition will be hosted by Krakow, Poland.

On March 28, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that Russians and Belarusians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participating in starts.
