For the 27th time in history, the Blaugrana fan can shout ‘he is champion’. This Sunday (14), the Barcelona thrashed Espanyol in the Catalan derby played at the Cornellà-El Prat Stadium: a score of 4 to 2 — a result that was enough to mathematically guarantee the title of the Spanish Championship.
In the game, valid for the 34th round of the international competition, Lewandowski (twice), Álex Balde and Koundé built the rout. The Polish striker even reached his 21st goal in LaLiga – getting closer and closer to the title of top scorer in the dispute.
Puado and Joselu scored the home team’s goals.
This was Xavi’s second title as a coach. The Barcelona idol had already won the Spanish Super Cup with the club as coach and now he can enjoy his greatest triumph so far.
In the first half of this Sunday’s derby, Barça have already taken the victory – and, consequently, the title. Lewandowski scored the first, after completing a cross from Álex Balde into the net.
The left-back extended the advantage in the 19th minute, when he took advantage of Pedri’s launch and stamped the goal. 20 minutes later, it was the turn of the Polish striker to return to the scoreboard, in assistance from the Brazilian Raphinha.
In the final stage, Koundé scored early in the period, after De Jong crossed, and determined the rout in the match. Puado even came to discount, with a goal by coverage in Ter Stegen, but Espanyol did not continue the attempt to react.
