Atletico Madrid stumble and lose to relegated Elche in the Spanish Championship

Atlético de Madrid (3rd) lost away from home to the already relegated Elche (20th) by 1-0 this Sunday, for the 34th round of the LaLigawithout managing to recover the vice-leadership of the championship that Real Madrid had taken from him on Saturday.

A goal by Fidel (42′) gave victory to Elche, who will play in the second division next season, but which prevents Atlético from fighting for second place in the league.

In the first half, Elche dominated the ‘rojiblancos’, who tried to react after the break by adding a little more intensity to their game, although they were unable to overcome the good organization of the local team.

Earlier, Valencia (14th) beat Celta (13th) by 2-1, gaining steam in their fight for permanence.

The ‘che’ team opened the scoring with a goal by Justin Kluivert (7′), but the Swiss Haris Seferovic equalized for Celta in the second half (60′), before Alberto Marí headed in the winning goal (88′ ) for visitors.

That triumph, combined with the defeat of Getafe on Saturday against Real Madrid (1-0), gives hope to Valencia, which opens three points in relation to the relegation zone, currently opened by ‘Geta’.

With four rounds to go and 12 points to be played after the current round, up to seven teams huddle in an eight-point space at the bottom of the table.

This Sunday is marked by the Catalan derby between leaders Barcelona and Espanyol (19th), in which Barça will be LaLiga champions if they win.
