United are getting closer to the Champions League
Erik ten Hag’s side ended a run of two consecutive defeats (against Brighton and West Ham) that threatened their presence in the top continental competition. With Liverpool hot on their heels, they couldn’t fail again. First of all, because the Reds are going like a shot at full throttle and want to finish the course successfully.
Wolverhampton was not the best rival to return to winning ways.
With six lost (Rashford, Heaton, Lisandro, Jones, McTominay and Van de Beek), the Red Devils played very comfortably until the break. Without showing off, but effectively, he carried all the weight of the match and little by little scored a goal with which he would eventually get three points.
He warned with a Bruno Fernandes free kick that Bentley caught and Antony headed a Shaw cross that went over the crossbar of the Wolves goal. And after half an hour, he claimed a goal by passing Bruno Fernandes and Antony, which Martial culminated with a shot of satisfaction that beat Bentley.
Wolverhampton tried to respond in the second half and, although they managed to move the ball regularly in United’s half, they continued to be alarmingly clueless in the final metres. Despite a good start, he was unable to find a goal in the second half either.
And, little by little, Manchester United began to feel comfortable on the counter-attack. With Bruno Fernandes as the main agitator, the figure of Bantley emerged to maintain the suspense. The goalkeeper of Wolverhampton brilliantly saved Jadon Sancho, Casemiro and Antony three times, but he could not oppose Alejandro Garnach, who closed the match. 2-0 was enough for United, who are now four points behind Liverpool with a game in hand and close to qualifying for the Champions League.
