Sporting disappoints in the end and beats Marítimo for the Portuguese Championship

In the fight for a place in the qualifiers of the Champions Leagueo Sporting received the Marítimo piece 32nd round of the Portuguese Championship in this Saturday. At Estádio de Alvalade, the hosts were leaked in the first half with a goal by Vítor Costa, but turned around in the final stretch and won by 2-1.

Sporting continued in fourth place, now with 70 points. All that remains is to fight for a place in the Champions League qualifying, but for that they will have to overcome Braga, who add one more point and have not yet played in this round. The next match for the home team will be against Benficaleader of the championship, next Sunday, at home.

Marítimo extended its sequence without a win, which is now four games, and continued with 23 points, maintaining the 16th position. To have chances of getting out of the relegation zone, the team has to hope Estoril doesn’t win on Monday. Their next match will be against Vizela, on Friday.

The owners of the house were leaked with 9 minutes of rolling ball. Vítor Costa received from the left and invaded the penalty area. The winger hit the cross, in the corner, and opened the scoring, 1-0 for Marítimo. Sporting’s equalizing goal only came out in the final minutes. At 39 minutes, Pedro Gonçalves tried a low cross from the left and Matheus Costa deflected against his own goal.

Sporting got the victory by swinging the nets in extra time, in the 48th minute. In a cross at the edge of the area, Sebastián Coates appeared at the second post to deflect a header, 2-1.
