Tévez defends compatriot Messi in controversy with PSG: “You are the ones who have to apologize”

Former player Carlos Tévez, Brazilian champion for Corinthians in 2005, defended his former Argentina teammate Lionel Messi in the controversy of the 35-year-old star’s trip to Saudi Arabia and which earned him a suspension for the Paris Saint Germain. In an interview with the channel TyC Sportsthe former striker said that PSG should apologize to his compatriot.

“If they told me, being world champion, that I should apologize for traveling when I was off duty, I would go back to Rosario and stay there drinking mate: ‘you’re the ones who have to apologize to me’. But Messi puts the club ahead of everything. In that sense, we have to take our hats off,” he said.

Furthermore, Tévez claimed that the French club “didn’t take care of Messi from the first moment he arrived”.

Messi returns from suspension at PSG this Saturday

Messi’s removal from PSG games and training was due to an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia by the number 30, after PSG’s defeat by Lorient, on April 30.

The return of the player, however, already has a date set. That’s because he has already returned to training with the squad, and coach Christophe Galtier confirmed him in the starting line-up for the team’s next appointmentin this Saturday.

In turn, the controversy influenced the club’s decision not to renew with Messi, who has a contract until the end of the 2022/23 season. That is, until June of this year. According to the European press, neither party has a desire to extend the bond and, thus, the athlete is close to playing his last games with the Paris shirt. The Argentine’s fate is yet to be defined, but a return to Barcelona or a deal with Al Hilal, from Saudi Arabia, are the favourites.

Still looking to confirm the title of the French Championship, PSG faces Ajaccio, starting at 4 pm (Brasília time) this Saturday, for the 35th round. With 78 points, the team is three ahead of vice-leader Lens, who has already entered the field in the round.
