The head of the IIHF spoke about the accrual of points for the Russian team after the World Cup

The head of the IIHF Tardif said that the Russian team will receive 1120 points after the 2023 World Cup

President of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Luc Tardif told how many points the Russian team will receive in the ranking after the 2023 World Championship. His words are quoted by TASS.

“Russia and Belarus will receive the same number of points as they earned after they left the competition,” said the head of the IIHF. A year ago, after the end of the World Championship in Tampere, the Russians received 1120 points.

At the end of 2022, the rating is headed by the Finnish team, which scored 4130 points. Canada is in second place with 3990 points. Russia is in third place with 3935 points.

The World Championship will be held in Tampere and Riga from 12 to 28 May. The national teams of Russia and Belarus will miss the tournament due to the suspension of the IIHF. The organization said that the return of teams to the world stage is not safe. Teams will not take part in all IIHF tournaments until the end of the 2023/2024 season.
