WFHG President Wiener announced the IOC’s desire to classify Russian athletes as homeless

President of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics (VFCG) Irina Viner spoke about the suspension of Russian athletes. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Viner announced the desire of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to classify Russian athletes as homeless, as athletes have to face discrimination in the selection for competitions. She felt that the suspension could give domestic sports the opportunity to develop domestically. The head of the WFHG proposed to hold an alternative Olympic Games.

On March 28, the IOC announced the possibility of admitting Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine to the competitions in a neutral status. Since then, a number of federations have followed the recommendations of the IOC.

At the same time, Russian athletes face problems to participate in tournaments due to difficult checks. In particular, the International Fencing Federation (FIE) banned Olympic champions Sofia Velikaya, Yana Egoryan, Sofia Pozdnyakova, Olga Nikitina and nine other saber fencers from participating in competitions.
