The Russian Judo Federation said that fans with St. George ribbons could be removed from the World Cup
The head of the Russian Judo Federation, Sergei Soloveichik, explained the scandal with St. George ribbons at the World Championships (WCH) in Doha, Qatar. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Soloveichik said the organizers had the right to follow the rules of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), according to which there should not be any symbols associated with Russia on the territories of sports facilities. “Nothing like that happened, someone came with signs, someone was not allowed,” he counted.
Earlier on May 10, a representative of the International Judo Federation (IJF) said that the organizers of the World Championships asked Russian fans to remove the St. George ribbons, but they refused to do so. After that, the fans were removed from the stands of the arena.
The World Judo Championship takes place from 7 to 14 May in Doha. Russians act on it in a neutral status.
