Colby Covington said that the secret to defeating Islam Makhachev is the right hook
American mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Colby Covington revealed the secret of victory over the Russian champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Islam Makhachev. His words are quoted by LowKick MMA.
Covington trained Brazilian Adriano Martins, the only fighter to defeat Makhachev. “I told him all the time, ‘Dude, just throw a right hook, he’s not ready for that, he can’t take that punch.’ Adriano just entered the octagon, did it and knocked out Makhachev, ”said Covington. He added that the Russian fights badly with left-handers, because he himself is left-handed.
On February 12, Makhachev turned out to be stronger than Australian Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284 by unanimous decision. He made his first defense of the organization’s lightweight title won in October.
During his career, 31-year-old Makhachev won 24 victories (of which 12 in a row). He suffered his only defeat in a fight with Martins in October 2015.
