Francis Ngannou Says UFC Lost $1 Million Sponsor Deal

French and Cameroonian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Francis Ngannou has spoken out against the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) policy, which restricts athletes from entering into contracts with sponsors. He wrote about this in Twitter.

The current UFC heavyweight champion accused the promotion of derailing a deal with a potential sponsor for a million dollars. He noted that he understands the goals of the UFC – the organization seeks to unify the sports equipment of fighters. However, he emphasized that the promotion should give the athletes at least some control over the form.

In January, after defeating compatriot Cyril Gan, Ngannou complained about financial conditions at the UFC. He noted that the current contract with the organization does not quite suit him. After the fight, it became known that Ngannou was out for nine months due to knee surgery.

Ngannou defended his UFC title for the first time. The Cameroonian heavyweight won the title against American Stipe Miocic in March 2021.
